Dabbling

So, you ask, what have I been doing in the Underground Studio? Obviously not blogging! Mostly I have been dabbling a little in this and that.

I painted some paper, using the end rolls of newsprint and acrylic paint.
The one on the right is gift wrap for my granddaughter’s 15th birthday gift. The one on the left, I had a new stencil I wanted to try.

I’ve had this Moldable Foam in the studio for quite some time, decided to pay with it.

I used my heat gun to heat the foam, I then pressed bottle caps and a kitchen whisk into the hot foam to make the stamps.

I kind of like my results. I think there are possibilities here.

I finished up this little bag and made a coordinating card for a friend’s birthday.
I recycled another gift bag using newsprint painted with acrylic paint. I used gel medium to adhere the paper to the bag. It makes a very stiff bag with an interesting texture.

I have also done a little tangling and have made a few cards. Just dabbling, not wanting to start a major project during the holidays. Although I have enjoyed painting the paper so much, I am thinking of painting and stenciling my Christmas gift wrap this year. That takes quite a bit of table space, so I may choose to do that at Open Studio at Ephemera Paducah.

My Home Town

My home town, Paducah, KY, is known as an art community. In addition to the National Quilt Museum and The Annual American Quilt Society Show, it also has a thriving art school, Paducah School of Art and Design and also home to the Lowertown Art District. This week Paducah received international recognition by being named the world’s seventh city for crafts and folk art by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It is now a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. I feel fortunate to live in Paducah and have the opportunity to learn from very accomplished artists and craftsman.

Friday's Distractions

My Friday chores are waiting.

Late yesterday afternoon my pizza box of stamps arrived from Club Scrap.

They were as described, 13-inch pizza box, double layered, 50 total (two duplicates) for $40 (plus $13 postage.)

I had to try all 48 stamps.

I ordered on them October 28th, received them on October 31. A note was included stating $20 was sent to OperationWrite Home.

It is Friday so it is yard-sale day, right? I only spent $2.50 this week. I bought 56 three inch black ceramic tiles for $2.00.

I don’t know what I will do with them. I was thinking Zentangle, maybe for a patio table. The red Sakura Identi pen did not show up but a silver paint pen worked. I wonder if they make a white Identi pen and if it would work? Or perhaps a white china pen? Suggestions are welcomed.

Can never have enough words for mixed media projects, so I bought another Thesaurus book.
Before I could get my stamping and tile experiment completed, the mail arrived. I now have Time to Tangle with Colors to further delay my Friday chores!

Okay, maybe I will hurriedly clean the kitchen and pantry and then delve into my new book.
